Equinix to Host Tokyo Peering Forum on October 2, 2008
Tokyo, Japan – October 1, 2008 – Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading global provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that it is hosting the Tokyo Peering Forum 2008. For the fifth time in Tokyo, the forum this year will focus on the influence of Next Generation Network (NGN) on the peering ecosystem in Japan. The forum will take place at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo on October 2, 2008.
The increasing popularity of high-bandwidth fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services, complemented with Web 2.0 services and multi-media content, have caused Japan’s broadband traffic to skyrocket. NGN, an integrated network which supports quadruple-play services and fixed-mobile convergence (FMC), provides a solid foundation to substantiate the development of the telecommunications market. Representative from Intec NetCore Inc. will share insights on the tide of NGN in Japan and how it revolutionizes the local telecommunications market.
NGN has also brought forth a new generation of products that embed the IP reference model. Japan Network Information Center (JPNIC) will discuss this issue of the depletion of the IPv4 address availability in the Japan market and suggest immediate resolutions. KDDI Corporation will compare IPv4 and IPv6 from a network design perspective.
The surge of international traffic across the Pacific has also driven the local players to explore interconnection opportunities with content companies and network service providers outside Asia Pacific. Eric Troyer, director of peering services from Equinix, will provide updates on peering trends and market dynamics in the United States and Europe. Raphael Ho from Equinix Asia Pacific will also discuss new peering development in the region.
The Tokyo Peering Forum will be chaired by Yuichi Ikejiri, NTT Communications Corporation, and scheduled speakers include Eric Troyer and Raphael Ho of Equinix, Intec NetCore’s Ikuo Nakagawa, Akinori Maemura from JPNIC and Masaru Mukai of KDDI.
